Does anyone have any measurements or specs on spindles from 1953 to 1956 cars for comparison and what bearing numbers apply. I have located a vendor that has a disc brake upgrade available on a 1953 Packard and he believes it will interchange up to the 56. I know the seniors & juniors use different wheel bolt patterns and this isn't a problem.

I don't have specs but here are the parts # info for models. Looks like there is a lot of interchangeability.

Are u wanting specs for JUST the spindle itself or the entire steering knuckle?????? THe best thing to do is to deliver an entire knuckle to the vendor.

The spindle is just the SHAFT that is pressed and then welded into the knuckle. The knuckle is the entire assembly of the spindle and knuckel that the king pin passes thru. The spindle is pressed into the knuckle ON AN ANGLE relative to the king pin. Not sure if that angle spec. is available unless someone has a print. That's why it would be best ot supplt the entire knuckle to the vendor.

I don't recommend it for parts like this. However, I just found that the Studebaker National Museum has some 400,000 engineering drawings of Packard parts. They can conduct a search for a fee and provide you with drawings.

What I need to work with vendor is similarities between 53 to 55 spindles to make upgrade kit available for later Packards without getting too technical. He already has kit that fits 1953 and I want to upgrade my 56. Thanks to all for your input in this. Vendor stated dramatic improvement in braking even with TV unit being retained.

Here are the appox measurements from my '54 Clipper which should be close to the same as the 55-56 Clippers and Exec. These are approx measurements based upon the measuring tools I have. (not to scale obviously)

From the parts manual it looks like virtually all senior series knuckles, with a couple exceptions interchange from 50-56, and same with juniors. I would think if he had a kit for 53, then it would interchange with the comparable later chassis. The 56 Clipper-Exec numbering scheme changed, but part is likely to interchange with comparable chassis from earlier
