Hey has anyone converted vacuum wipers (1948 Custom Eight) to electric. If so how did you do it or where did you get the new electric motor.

Several have used the Newport motor on later V8 cars with good results. Since it's a 12v motor, to use on a 48 you will need their electric wiper kit and will also require their voltage inverter. I don't remember any on the forum who have converted a 6v car so no ready reports on that combination.

Aside from originality, downside to this particular setup is there is no provision for incorporating the Packard or Trico windshield washer if your car has one. It appears you would need to have and adapt their switch and pump.

jsa, if your vacuum booster pump and wiper motor are in good condition you should find that system more than adequate for any condition you're likely to encounter. Yes - on hard acceleration they will show down slightly but if yours are slowing significantly or stopping, either your motor or booster pump needs attention.

PS - it would seem a shame to unnecessarily alter the originality of a Custom 8.
