1941 Clipper Restoration

Hello Everyone I am starting this to track my progress of the restoration of the 1941 Clipper I recently purchased. First the background I know on the car. I bought it from a classic car dealer in Volo IL. The car was on consignment from a 95 year old woman who had purchased it used in 1960 had driven it until 1965 and then parked it in her garage and that is where is sat with a 50's Cadillac until Volo Auto Museum had pulled it out. The car still has 1965 IL plates and a news paper on the front seat from 1966. I purchased and the tow truck delivered it to my house and there she sits while I save the money to start the restoration and decide what to start first. Also I will attach pictures of my new toy in its current state!

The Clipper looks to be a solid foundation with which to begin. I look forward to watching your progress.

a local locksmith (old fashioned one) should be able to do it. I had no issue when I bought a spare tire lock without a key

Most of the Packard used standard Briggs and Stratton style keys. Any lock smith should be able to make you a set. Take the locks to the locksmith to save the house call charge.

Andy,

Great looking Clipper. This should be a fun project. I too am looking forward to your posts.

Packard used two keys: one for the ignition switch and door locks, and the other for the glove compartment and trunk. If this arrangement has not been changed on your Clipper; then, you can take your door and glove compartment locks to a locksmith and should get the right keys for the ignition and trunk without having to deal with the harder to remove locks. Something to consider.

Thanks for all the info it is very helpful and greatly appreciated!

A few more questions should there be a lock on the drivers door? There is just a Packard shield?

Also as far as the glove box any recommendations on getting it open? My friend had a key pick set and we got the lock to turn but the door is still stuck closed and suggestions would be appreciated!
