Indeed it is I should imagine. How does the lowering affect the torsion-Level suspension?

I suggest that John get in contact with Richard Quinn, he has much Studebaker material including the Studebaker Inventions (firsts) lists, maybe he got Packard material too when SB closed.
Look him up on the SDC Forum. In the end it's a bit of (to use an Aussie expression) a pissing contest "We did this" "We did that," Regardless, the Packard was and is still recognized as the best car in the world for its heyday, who invented what can never top that. I understand the need for correct history, perhaps you can have a list of the "known" firsts and the "maybe" firsts. In the end we (the rest of you) have our lovely cars to drive and enjoy.

I think the usual thing is to put the car on a hoist and disconnect the gearbox from the engine, remove gearbox, repair, then reinstall. Often, folks will remove an engine/gearbox as a unit if working on both, you likely won't have to.
The experts will be along later to correct anything I said that's wrong. Best wishes with your car.

Good luck to anyone who wishes to try. Easy to buy the rights, what about the cost of setting up a factory, staff, sourcing quality parts etc, not to forget setting up a dealer network.
It would likely be easier to rebuild the Detroit factory than revive it. Interesting video on the RHD converted Camaro, just a shame it's AUD$135,000.

According to some 1955 (Jan 5, 1955) press releases the following were the rear axle ratios with Ultramatic:
3.54 to 1 - Patrician 3.23 to 1 - 400 3.23 to 1 - Clipper 3.07 to 1 - Clipper Hope this is of some use. John

All I could find on this is on page 494 of the Beverly Rae Kimes History of Packard where it states "Skipper the Clipper" coaxed the sales dept.
It's enough perhaps that it's basic design was by Howard "Dutch" Darrin who came up with a small model in 4 days.

Thank you Guscha, A nice photo of what could have been a Studebaker truck, but alas, South Bend was closed before they could be made.

i was on the Packard Club website Forum a few months before it disappeared. In any case, no matter, I was rather unimpressed and when I got a Packard Magazine from "Office Administrators, I was surprised until I realized it was the name of a business - not the club being stuffy and officious.
I'll rejoin Dave's Forum and maybe the AACA too. As for Studebelle, she's doing OK, had her serviced by my Toyota Dealer last week and the week before got the front bench seat repaired (new springs, new foam) and the old cover put back on. As the fellow who did it said, it's ready for when she's redone, just replace the cover. As for my darling car here is a link to Flickr where there are 34 photos - not bad for a 48 year old car: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31883343@N00/ John
