Re: How to remove exterior door handles

Years ago when I was restoring our LeBaron A/W Town Car, I made a crude drawing as I disassembled the door handles.
I am not an artist, but hopefully this sketch will give you a basic understanding of how it is constructed. The exterior door handles of the 1937 Super-Eight and Twelve are the same. It is not on my drawing, but as I recall, the is a screw in the end of the shaft. You have to gently pry off the upholstery to access it. The collar has a small hole in it which allows you to put a drill bit in and unscrew it from the female receptacle which is screwed onto the body. The collars have been reproduced and used to be advertised in theCCCA Bulletin. Later this week I will try to find an old issue with contact info. Important to use a good plater who will not grind out the detail. For years I have advised folks contemplating buying a 'good running car' or 'tour ready'....
Insist on driving the car 50 miles on highways, city, rough pavement, etc to demonstrate the car does not overheat or break down BEFORE the money changes hands.

I am not familiar with the design of the 288 but years ago I needed to remove the head on our 326 Six.
First I determined which pistons came up together, then after removing all the head nuts and spark plugs, I worked some cotton rope into the cylinders and cranked slowly. This was enough to break the seal and allow me to remove the head. Perhaps this hack would work for you?

DEFINITELY NOT the '55-56.Most probably the 51-52.
One is still in the original wrapper and the other I had removed to take the pics. I got these, plus a load of stainless from the widow of the dealer in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

All the '37 Twelves I have seen have the front roll control bar, but I have only seen only two on Super-Eights... our RHD 1003 and a 1019.
The Super-Eights and Twelves mount differently and have different part numbers. I put the roll control bar on our '37 super-Eight Convertible Sedan because it is our driver. Let me tell you, it makes a BIG difference in cornering sharp curves on country roads! If any reader has a Super-Eight unit gathering dust, please contact me...I am interested in acquiring another one for out LeBaron A/W Town Car.
