I'm a little shocked that the 55s did not debut in the fall like every other car. This can't have been good for sales.

If I recall my Packard history correctly, they were SUPPOSED to, but there were a lot of bugs needing worked out, what with all the engineering changes and getting the Conner Ave. plant going, etc...

What a strange coincidence! I made a post in the V-8 forum asking what model '55 was the first production V-8 Packard just the other day!....

I wonder if there's such a car with manual brakes, transmission, and non-TL suspension?

I tried to drive by the plant on East Grand Blvd. once. I ended up on some sort of overpass and not near it at all...

The thing to remember, ANY car is restorable, it just depends on how much money you want to throw at it. To paraphrase an old saying, one man's parts car is another man's pride and joy.

Very true. And I think I let my own VERY limited body/mechanical repair skills impede my judgement.

So, to totally change the subject - MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY NEW YEAR!...

Agreed, there's nothing wrong with selling a parts car.

And also agreed that cars shouldn't be sent to the crusher.

I just looked at these particular examples, one (at least) of which was listed as "restorable" and thought that really, IMHO, they weren't.

Every one who replied has made a valid point. Perhaps my judgement call was too hasty?...

...and there were 3 different early 50's Packards listed that MIGHT have made good PARTS cars, but that's all!

I'm always a bit irked when people list an old car for sale just BECAUSE it's old.

I know anything can be restored if someone wants to badly enough and has the money, talent, and time to do so, but c'mon!

Some cars are just too far gone. Even Packards...

Just my opinion....
