Horrors, horrors, horrors! What a hulking beast!! If he was going to put in all that effort and $, better IMHO that he tried to make a replica of the 42 Clipper Darrin one-off and kept an authentic chassis and driveline.

Even if it was, it was a rare car, as the owner states it was "originally a 4 door hardtop Clipper".

Things I see wrong with this car right off the bat:
#1-It's peach.
#2-It has an Oldsmobile engine in it, yuck.

What it has going for it:
#1-It's called "The Great Pretender", yup, that's an adequate name for that ugly POS.

All this can be be explained by the fact that the owner/builder lives in Rhode Island. They do weird things to cars in RI, and there's a LOT of strange people there....

LMFAO!!!

I was really surprised that the owner's name wasn't "Phil".... I figured that he was a relative of yours... I like how it has a Toronado transaxle and front wheel drive, weren't we discussing just that for your '38 the other day???

No we were discussing putting a Fiero transaxle in place of the rear axle of the Packard and keeping the straight 8 in the front
I saw that car at a show last summer - not something I would like but it was nicely done.

That car reminds me of a line from my favorite Christmas movie.

"He looks like a Pink Nightmare...."

I know, it's amazing what some people do and think is "cool".

We also discussed the Toronado transaxle as well, for one of my projects. But it's ok, I understand memory loss gets worse as you get older...
