At least for 1956 the loop for the fixed Coachman's Strap belongs on the INSIDE, otherwise it would interfere with the mounting of the boot.

As far as the distributor condenser is concerned, NAPA/Echlin AL-869 is an acceptable, near-universal alternative for many, many applications, the prewar Senior Packards among them.

The function of the steering column switches is covered in the owner's manual. The left switch controls all the parking and headlight functions including the high beams and the switch on the right is the hand throttle.

No. Not necessary to remove the front clip, or even to remove the radiator. But you will need to remove the fan, and if the front motor mount has sagged much you may have to lift the front of the motor a bit with a jack underneath to access the pump bolts that are in close proximity to the mount.

The brass knob on the side is the cover for the fuse. There is no adjustment of charge rate on the generator cutout and control unit, you have a 3rd brush type generator and charge rate is adjusted on the generator itself by the position of the 3rd brush, screw to adjust on the back plate of the generator.

Mr. Babinsky in addition of owning an outstanding Packard Sport, also owns an exhaust system manufacturing company with an extensive collection of original specifications. Best way to get in touch is to call his shop phone (908-236-6400) and leave a message for him.

AutoLite 3136, readily available at most any decent auto parts outlet.

There was very little of 1001 that was worth saving towards the restoration, really if it was anything other than 5699-1001 it would have been junked years ago. Probably the only valuable pieces would have been the stainless steel vehicle number plate and the engine block with its number. The trans was already replaced, the one in the car was from a Clipper, and most of the body was well beyond saving except with suprr-human efforts, hence the 400 parts car.

I have many photos of the car, I'll check to see if they can be dated but as I recall, I last saw the car at Artisan about 2019 or so and if my memory is correct, the motor was rebuilt by then. Ole passed away in June 2020.

Perhaps you'd like to send me a PM with your email address so we can exchange more info.

PS - from dates on my photos the engine rebuild was complete as of December, 2017. Also from my photos, though they may not have been salvageable, 1001 as purchased in 2016 was complete with both carburetors and correct batwing air filter.
