I have a 1937, 115C. Is there a way to verify if the engine and chases are from the same vehicle?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob:

To my knowledge records never existed that matched engine numbers with frame numbers (and individual unique frame numbers ceased being used in the mid-30s). There was a way, 1929 and newer, to tell if an engine and body were as originally assembled at the factory. Problem is that for the 1+ million vehicles that such records would have existed for, I'm only aware of surviving records for barely 1000 vehicles, so chances are infinitesimal. If you want to give it a shot give me the "theft-proof" or body serial number, the large 6 digit number embossed into the engine side of the cowl.

Hi Owen,

I figured I would take a shot at finding out if you have the time. The "theft-proof" number is T34468. On the opposite side of the engine it has a number I082-20207 with a date of 03/23/1937 stamped on it.

Thank you for your effort,

Bob

A bit of confusion Bob about the numbers and where you say they are. First of all the theft-proof number you give as T34468 is not possible, it would be 6 characters and all digits, somewhere between 280373 and 401226 - these would be very large numerals embossed into the firewall. BUT T34468 is within the range of motor numbers for a 1937 6-cylinder car, the range being T1501-T67104.

The number you say "is on the opposite side of the engine", 1082-20207, is structured as a vehicle number, and within the correct range for a 1937 6-cylinder touring sedan.

Maybe you can clear up exactly where you are seeing these numbers.
