Interesting hole in the bell housing, my 37 115 c has no hole in it but the shop manual 1937/ 1938 shows a hole and plug ! When I was replacing my clutch Assy. The throw out bearing casting was not the same, to one side it had a hole drilled down as to oil the bearing and a small dished out area the size of a penny about 1/8" deep ? What is this I thought maybe to reach up and oil with a oil can ! Did it have a oil line hocked to it at one time. The bearing I have is in good shape and is of a rugger type, so I will reuse the one I have. This unit might not be original of course.. What I did find out possibility ! The bearing (only) could be ford as well is the pressure plate in size 9 1/2" , spline is the same as ford. Went to auto zone for my clutch disc allinement tool no. 22, that also fits pilot bearing. Older senior cars (before '36 ??) had the Bijur lube system with a hose to lube the throwout bearing. The bell hsg hole makes sense tom oil the cup in the t/o collar but I don't recall and collars that were drilled for junior cars??

thanks guys!

more work. oil filter on. Dad formed up the lower line, using the old one as a pattern. not as lucky on the intake line. we went to form that up and only got so far because i could not get the plugs out of the side of the block that they machine shop put in.

they are allen head 3/16". stripped out two of them trying. got lucky and got the ones directly to the left and right of the exhuast pipe. one for the oil guage and the other for the oil filter inlet. whew.... that was close one.

while the lower line looks really close to the dizzy VA...its an optical illusion. its enough room, barely.

trans all mounted up completely now. filled it up and bottoned on the top. gears change well.

is there supposed to be a spring on the throw out fork? i dont remember taking one off, but in this picture from ebay....there is one on it. could it be something someone put on this car themself? i can't find anything in the parts book.

Hank, yes - you will need a spring from the throw out fork to the frame rail as pictured. It keeps the release bearing from riding on the pressure plate and brings the clutch pedal to its returned position. It is a heavy duty spring with lots of movement.

If 37 is like the later ones there is also a small spring inside the bellhousing to keep the throwout bearing in constant contact with the fork.

Found it. It was in the pile of bolts I forgot about from when I took the front of the car off. Thanks for confirming JW.

HH, I do have the spring on the throw out bearing.
