Hello all, I apologize in advance if this is a repeat question...I know that I've touched on the subject myself already. I'm installing a R-11 in my 1938 Packard Six (hoping that the engine has enough oomph to make it worth it). I was told by another member that the top loader from my original trans. will work, but that it needs some adapting to the forks(?). I was told that Pete Toet was the man to talk too. I can't seem to track down his contact info. If anyone can advise me or send me Pete's contact info that would be great.

Hi all, Here is a write-up on the procedure for an R6, R9 and early R11. PM me if you are unsure. Good luck and all it takes is a steady hand and remember that you are altering the forks from the cane shift ... not the column change shift. PT

The Six shouldn't have any problem with the overdrive. Another member here, I think he goes by the name of 39PackardSix, has done it to his '39, and it runs beautifully. He used an R9.

Thanks for the responses. Pete, I read your instuctions. I may PM you to talk about pics if you have any.

It sounds to be a bit of a job...not impossible, but not a walk in the park either. I'm fairly committed to it, if for no other reason than it's the only Packard transmission that I have. I bought the car in pieces and boxes...just tryin' to figure out where they all go.
