If memory serves,The idea was to rest or unwind the axle on the other side.Only one has any pressure on it at a time anyway.(No posi traction.)And at this distance from new They may break anyway.I will dig up the article. Brian

I heard the exact opposite, I read swapping your shafts will help them last longer.I have done so and had no problems. The Idea was in Packard Internationals "Packard tips".Brian

I agree with hh56,I bet your points are burned.Yes caused by the condenser.Often the points LOOK good till you take them out only to find a pit big enough to hide a mack truck between the contacts.Badly pitted points could cause poor performance too. Brian

If you have a spark tester that is the best.Or put a spark plug wire with a bare end on it on a plug. Hold the bare wire 1/8 inch from the block.Have some one turn the motor over.If the spark wont jump that gap your coil is weak and wont fire in the cylinder.Make sure you are insulated from the wire or you will get lit up.And the spark MUST be blue,NOT yellow.I hope this helps.I know you have been thru a lot so far. I hate to be redundant. But you have also as yet proved you have spark in the cylinders.Just because the plugs fired outside the cylinder doesn't mean it will inside. It takes more energy to jump gap under pressure.Or did you do so and I missed it? Brian

John,That is not the case.PTs did not have a step.It was put to the U.S. Military by Gar.Most likely where the engines went. The PT in America was Gars Idea.He wanted $.The Govt said no. B

Please note these are NOT the original engines. They are PT boat motors.Anyone that finds the original Packard 1m-2500 engines would have found history. Most historians believe they no longer exsist.Miss America 10 is kept here in Algonac and is owned along with Miss America 9 by the Mistalie family.Nine is being restored.
