Re: 37 115c starter

A Ford from the mid 60's used basically the same solenoid. Napa can supply one pretty easily. The old fashioned unit basically differed by allowing you to unscrew the knurled cover and push a button to bump the starter. Handy when adjusting the dwell - that way you don't have to get your wife out to the garage. The new units work just fine, you just have to have an agreeable wife to adjust your points....

I agree with the item being the flap at the end of the filler tube. Let me know if you need another tube - I have a spare on the shelf.

Did a 39 120 have adjustable seats? I can't find anything in the Shop Manual or Owner's Manual on it.

More horn questions

Home away from home

The previous owner of my 39 120 removed the horns for some reason. I have several horns in my parts bin I can use. One set is the curled versions as seen in a earlier post, which are the orginal type. The second set is a pair of trumpet horns. Remembering from my teenage years, I had a 39 Chevy with trumpet horns that were mounted on brackets spanning the hood rods. Has anyone seen a setup like this on a Packard? I really prefer the trumpet horns mostly because of the really nice sound. Thanks

Thanks West. This really helps.

Beautiful engine! You probably know Jim Hollingsworth in Dallas. He has a great collection of 1940 models and has at least one with factory air.

The Spring copy of the Packard Club Cormorant has some excellent discussions on the 48/49/50 Packards. There is one dealing with the rather confusing serial number issues and the fact that many 49's were updated to be sold as 50 models.

Guys - This is a 41, not a 39. The 39 has raised headlights and no horn grilles on the sides of the radiator.

does anyone know which wire or cable goes in which hole on the 39 120 firewall grommet? A photo would be great. I have a new one from Steele, and need to know which wire goes where. Also, should I be splitting it to install the wires? thanks
