Dear Mar:
I would go with Max Merritt. There isn't anything special about what Packard was using except there are some special fasteners on the shell that you need to be 100%.

Nice pictures of the correct installation. There is (was?) a source for kits with the correct welting with the internal wire - simple welting w/o the internal wire isn't correct, at least for 34 and 33s and I suspect 32 is the same. Correct me please if I'm incorrect.

Marty,
Hopefully you have the original internal lacing wire. If not some 1/2 hard wire can be used to insert into the replacement lacing. If you need the wire dia. let me know and I'll measure what I have, which came off the original lacing. Owen, I haven't seen the lacing with the wire. Maybe one of clubs took this on as a project at one time? Regards, Dave

BTW...the ignition timing plate shown in the sixth picture is not original. I made this up after getting tired removing the starter all the time to check the timing.

Dave, straining my memory, I wish I could remember where I got mine. It was some years back and sold in kits for both the open (shorter radiator shell) and closed cars. It was premade, cut to proper lengths with the internal wire but the kit didn't include the unique little fasteners which are easy enough to make anyway. If I can recall the source I'll add it to this post.

O-D, Tim & Dave;
Thanks for all of the great wealth of information and outstanding photos. I think I have the wire for the cowl area, but not for the radiator. I'll need to go to the place where I think they are stored to hopefully get them. I'll be ordering the lace and drive nail set from Max Merritt. Hope to get to it in a couple of weeks - assuming there isn't a problem. Thanks To All
