One of our steady tow truck operator customers (that's our big customer base) came into our retail store and during small talk he told my associate about an auction taking place this Saturday, Dec 8th. Two somewhat desirable pre-war Packards are going up for auction, looks to be a 1938 12 Long WB sedan and a 1928 8 cyl touring car. They are far from perfect, and lots of things are missing, but I think they are going to go for a good price to someone.

Love the '28. Do you have any idea if the grille and radiator are available?

I surely would like to have the vehicle number from that Twelve to go along with the very legible body dash number. If anyone goes to take a look, would you get the # for me?

Any idea what the reserve is if any or what the seller is trying to get out of them. Love the 28

More info on the auction and location.
vanstowing.com/public-auto-auction-roseville-mi.htm There are a couple of post war Lincoln Continentals and a Bentley in there too, and a sweet 96 Dodge Neon (just kidding).

UPDATE: We just had a call from the guy who owns the cars (tow yard operator) and the radiator shells are with the cars, the 12 "is full of the parts that were taken off".

Hi
The '28 looks to be a '26 243 7 passenger Touring after comparing details in photos, I base that on the crowned fenders, six lugnuts and squared-off rear door bottom, I yield to those more expert if it's not. That unfortunate '38 Twelve may not be as far gone as it looks. If it is, it's still a valuable parts car to save others. A couple of desirable Packards, hope they find appreciative conservators. Steve P.S. Boy! I'm goin' after that sweet '96 Neon! Truthfully, I had a '96 5-speed to commute in, reliable little car good for 38-40mpg on the four lane!

I think now that the touring car is a 1924, I was at work when I posted this, and did it on the quick.
Re: the Neon--My wife (then girlfriend) had one in '96 and she loved that car, it got great gas mileage and was the perfect size for her. When the lease was up she got talked into a Stratus and she didn't like that car near as much as the Neon. She developed a habit of shearing off the passenger side mirror pulling into the garage. I replaced that enough times that I beat the book for time!

According to my sources that attended the auction it seemed to be a mini-meeting of the Motor City Packard Club.
Both cars sold without reserve. The 1924 was purchased by an MCP member that also owns a 1925 and the hammer went down at $33,000. The 1938 Twelve went to phone bidder from Texas for $6,900.
