Isnt it achieved by twisting a rod that sticks out of the bottom of the odo?
The often get bent or removed. Maybe its missing

I'm not familiar with the '37, but I think Packard sometimes used a knurled metal post/knob on the end of a cable that mounted to the bottom edge of the dashboard (not necessarily directly under the odometer).

There is usually a knurled knob on the end which is held in place by a set screw which does come loose. Mine did and it took the dummy a good while to figure it out.

The reset knob is at the back of the speedometer, on the side towards the center of the car. Look at the picture of a bad bad 37 speedometer I have for parts. The picture I have included shows the reset knob. Hope you find it............

Just can't stay away

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to all the good information but today was the first day I have had to play with the car. Yup, the reset was on the back side of the speedo just like the picture preceding this message. Thanks for all the advise, I would probably not have found it for awhile without your help.
