Selling my 1939 Six Convertible Coupe

After 7 years of ownership, I have decided to put my car up for sale as I would like to trade up for something else at this time. But before I can acquire another vehicle, I need to sell this one first due to both financial and storage issues.

This is a running, driving car and I have used it extensively over the past 7 years. It is currently registered in Connecticut.

I would describe it as an older, amateur driver quality restoration. It has a leather interior in the correct pattern for the year and a new reproduction front floor mat from Donald Lampen. Most of the chrome was done when the car was restored, and it is quite presentable. The running board rubber has been replaced and I bought new stainless steel running board moldings from Max Merritt shortly after I acquired the car. The B.F. Goodrich wide white wall tires were replaced by the former owner and probably only have a couple of thousand miles on them. There is a matching spare in the trunk that has never been used. The wiring harness also appears to have been replaced at some point in the restoration and I have never had any electrical issues. All the lights work, including the dash lights. It has a kill switch under the hood. The only modification was the addition of an electric fuel pump. The car starts quite easily with it.

I have receipts for over $8K in repairs from a reputable Packard shop (Parker's Packards of Massachusetts) including extensive suspension work, replacement of the fuel sending unit and a new exhaust system.

While the car presents well and has won a number of trophies at local shows, it does have its issues.

The outer body panels are solid, but there is some rough patchwork in the floors, trunk pan and in the rear wheel wells underneath the fenders.

The paint, while glossy and in a very attractive color, does have chipping and cracks in some spots as the car was probably restored over 40 years ago.

These items are not currently working:

Speedometer: Was working at one time, but the cable snapped. The speedo head probably does need to be rebuilt or replaced with a tested unit.

Grille shutters: All of the hardware is there but I am assuming that the thermostat needs to be replaced.

Radio: Have not attempted to have this looked at. It switches on, but just makes a humming noise.

Heater and Clock

The car was appraised by Sotheby's about two years ago at $30K, so I am looking for offers in that range, but am negotiable. There is some recent damage to the lower left fender (car accidentally rolled backwards over a rock on the edge of my driveway, so I am willing deduct for this.

This is a car which may either be enjoyed as is or upgraded as the owner sees fit. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I would also invite any interested parties to come and see the car in person.

G'day packardsix1939,

Could you please advise when your '39 Six Convertible Coupe is sold so its Packard Vehicle Registry entry can be updated? Good luck with the sale.
