Headliner for 2301

Headliner issue. In my 2301, which i wrote about a few days ago, needs new wiring. When in the car on Thursday, I felt the headliner and there is a weight above the 1st and second bow above the headliner. I wonder what it could be? If there were mice, nothing in the interior was chewed on. Also, I have no idea how anything could get up there.

I cannot see a way of removing the edge of the headliner, to get the debris out, without tracking the headliner. Any suggestions? If I need a headliner replaced, who makes sewn headliners for this?

If the headliner needs replacing i will run the tail light wires as they were made by Packard: over the left hand doors and under the headliner.

Suggestions?

Sid

It is probably the sound and heat insulating pad. Those are glued to the roof and the glue has probably failed.

The headliner is held by a combination of tacks in some areas and sharp barbs on strips of sheetmetal that are fastened above the doors. To remove the headliner requires removing the tacks or getting the material up and off the barbs. It will be almost impossible to get it back in the exact spot so areas of unfaded cloth won't show and in all probability the headliner will be damaged and torn trying to remove it to the point of being unusable again.

Thanks. Now I have to decide if to leave the headliner as-is or to tear it down, wire the car, and have a new headliner installed.
