Did the standard coupe (2498) have tinted glass or clear? I believe its clear.

When it became available tinted glass was sold as an option. It is shown in the 25th RPO code list as available for all models but if this combined 24-25 series RPO list is correct and I am reading the list correctly, Solex tinted glass first became available for 52 and later models so would not have been on a 51.
The 51 accessory book shows what is called a light filter which I believe was a 2 or 3 inch wide strip of tinted celluloid that was adhered across the windshield top. I guess it was an early version of todays tinting films.

In case no one has mentioned it, the side windows are flat glass so any local glass shop can make a replacement in any tint or color that's available! Just be sure to specified polished edges.

I remember applying those windshield sun shades. A kind of tinted plastic which was applied by wetting the glass and using a squeegee to smooth out air bubbles. They worked quite well and were much less expensive than a tinted windshield.
