I think the pilot bearings for the 288 and 327 would be the same. The 356 uses a different bearing. Is the 327 out of an Ultramatic car?

Yes it was with an Ultramatic.

A manual transmission won’t work on an Ultramatic engine without some effort and maybe even machining on the crank to install a pilot bearing or bushing. I don’t recall offhand if it’s even possible or practical to do so. Best to do research before buying and throwing parts together!

The end of the crank is machined so I really just need the dimensions of the part number I'm asking for. Then I can see if it'll work with original bearing.

At the introduction of Ultramatic all crankshafts were bored to a larger pilot bearing diameter. There is not a scintilla of difficulty changing between Ultra and manual due to that fact. All the man needs is the dimensions of the large pilot bearing that was used mid 49-54. I am 8000 miles from home so can not measure one for him.

Thanks Ross for clarifying that.
The measurements are if anyone else are interested 47x15 mm.
