Blind man asking - what is the difference between 288 and 327 manifolds, 2bbl, 327 in the shop is cracked, and we have a few 288s here, but cannot "see" the difference??? (23rd series 327 in the shop...) Thanks guys...

The conductor size is different between the 288 and the 327 at least as far as the intake is concerned. The conductor size is smaller on the 288 manifold. Other than that the 288 manifold will bolt up but I don't recommend the swap.

There maybe 327 manifolds at the picking grounds on Sat. Waiting for a return call on getting that setup.

I put my 288 manifolds/carb on the 327 and it was fine until i got a vacuum leak. Putting better gaskets on now.


Smaller runner ports would increase incoming air velocity which usually results in better throttle response and better idle mixture tunability.

Since these motors have mild cams and no idle mixture issues, and i don't run mine wide open where the smaller runners would make a difference, and the throttle response difference is minor, i don't think you'd notice any difference, at least i didn't.

I'd have put the 4bbl one on, but then i'd have to tap it for 23rd series linkage, find a 4bbl carb with integrated starter switch, etc. Too much hassle for my project.

The exhaust manifolds are the same for both 288 and 327 engines from 1948 to 1952.
If it is the exhaust that is cracked then one from any of these years can be bolted up to the original 327 intake manifold.
