G'day Kevin,
to PackardInfo. Take a look over this thread, it should help. And a request of you, could you please include your '49 Standard in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo?

Use a block of wood between a floor jack and the oil pan. You might be lucky by just loosening the bottom bolts and moving the yoke forward. Use a socket with lots of extensions for the bolts at the bottom. AFter the yoke is removed or moved, you can remove the wter pump. Now is a good time to check your water distribution tube. On the other hand , if you remove the yoke, you can paint everything. Count your blessings, this job is much easier on the car you have than a '41-I've done both Regards John Harley EDIT OD kindly pointed out to me that i got my yolks and yokes crossed up because I tried to post too late in the day. SO..the yolk is now on my face instead of the post....

JHH, I'll give the wood a try. I got a new distribution tube with the car when I bought it. Probably will put it in while I have everything apart.
Your 41 may be more difficult to do, but my next Packard will still be an older Pre-war. I love the look, just didn't have enough money for it.
