Hydraulic jack oil, or hydraulic oil like Mobil's DTE are suitable fluids. Some have also recommended motorcycle fork oil as a substitute.

Dear Phil:
I would put the rear up on stands and check your rear wheel bearings and end play. Also, if that is your car in the picture, it looks like your springs need to be rearched.

Maybe this should be moved to the Pre-War section. Good topic, but more relevant there. I have used hydraulic jack oil in the shocks of my 115C with good results.
