Any of the conventional gasket pastes like Permatex No. 4, or even plain and basic gasket shellac will work just fine.

Tom, I've never used any sealant on any of the valves I have done. The rubber is quite soft and seals well. The key thing is to do your crimps carefully.

Thinking over my prior response, I agree with Ross. No sealant was used when new and none should be required if the valve is reassembled properly.
