another revolutionary feature in some 2012 cars is variable opening grille bars.
I saw the 2013 MKZ prototype at the Detroit show this winter - attractive car but I doubt if the roof will make production unchanged. We'll see if it's sufficently differentiated from the Fusion platform from which it's derived.

Revolutionary, huh? Everything old is new again. I remember our neighbor's 1959 Rambler Ambassador and my grandfather's 1963 Plymouth with pushbutton transmissions. Didn't Edsel also have pushbuttons? Regardless, Packard beat them all.

I remember about 5 years ago when Mercedes Benz was bragging about their fully automatic folding all steel convertible top, that folded into a rear opening trunk lid.
Ahem...1957 Ford Skyliner?

One of the "new exciting features" on this car is "The Revolutionary new Electronic Push Button Transmission" "providing a fresh approach to the driving experience."
Maybe they were cleaning up and rediscovered the tooling for the revolutionary system used on the Edsels. Doubt they made enough of those to fully amortize the cost so maybe they are going to try again.

the retractable hardtop was being pushed by Karmann to the OEM's - I think that's where MB got it. The Karmann people were aware of the Skyliner.

At least the Mopar buttons used time tested mechanical cables and levers to do their work. None of that new fangled 'lectricty that half the mechanics of the time still hadn't tangled with.

In the '80's GM "invented" the lock up torque converter.
