Greetings,
Yesterday while driving in a parade my gear shift lever broke at the base by the nut. (photo attached) 3 questions: 1. has anyone experienced this and how they repaired it. 2. can a machine shop weld and repair or do i need to find a replacement. 3. can this be done without removing the transmission and can it be done inside the vehicle.
many thanks. check out the photo!
Robert

I think I might have what you need, if you want to go the "replacement" route. Cost would be around $150, plus shipping.

The cane and it's associated mechanism call all be serviced from above. Just remove the carpet and whatever is necessary to get to the case cover.

If down the road, you want to have this one fixed, take all related parts to a reputable weld shop. From what I see in your picture, the penetration of the weld was not good on the piece that the shifter shaft went in to. Some machining to that part to weld it correctly may be in order to get it done properly.

If it won't move, get a bigger wrench.
If it breaks, it needed fixing anyway.

I found a replacement shifter for you. I forgot to take it out of my wife's truck, so I can't take a photo of it now, but will do so asap (this afternoon). It's in very nice condition. Not rusty. Ready for paint ... or chrome. This one is painted.

Hmmm. I just looked at the shifter I have saved for the Speedster (see attached). It is slightly different than the one I pulled for you in that it has the swivel ball. I'll have to go back and see if I can find a good shifter with a ball for you.

Unless... the balls are removable????? Are they pressed on???

Take yours apart a little further and see if there's a ball on it, and if it's removable.

You can e-mail me at StelvioGT@yahoo.com with your mailing information, and I'll send you my information as well.

I just realized... the "divot" you see in the ball is for a pin. Remove the pin, and the ball should slide off.
