Brake Cylinders

I'm rebuilding the brake and master cylinders on my 50 Super 8. I won't be able to drive her for some time and system won't be sealed to outside air. I'm concerned that if I use brake fluid as an assembly lubricant it will corrode and I'll have to do the work over again. I tried to assemble the cylinders dry but was afraid of damaging the rubber seals.

Is there any lubricant that would be suitable to use now that will be compatible with brake fluid?

Thanks to all.

I've never used any but several other forums mention Raybestos BAF 12 assembly lube which is apparently also sold as Carquest TBAF 12. I couldn't find any manufacturer specs to see what the properties are though.

Wildwood makes a synthetic assembly lubehttp://www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-290-11087 which might do the job.

If you have to leave things open, in addition to the lube I would be sorely tempted to buy some caps for the lines or some plugs for the cylinders or both. They are probably available individually at a good local hardware store. If not, there is a wide size and type selection available at McMaster-Carr. www.mcmaster.com You can buy packs of each type containing enough for a lifetime for a few dollars
