Apr~Oct 2012 -

Been a while since I've updated everyone, but a lot has been accomplished since March:
> Body set off the chassis. POR-15 on bottom of body and back ? of chassis.
> Cleaned / painted muffler, drive shaft, universal joints, leaf springs, e-brake lines and cables, muffler brackets, Fuel and brake lines
> Replaced rubber on shackles and leaf spring u-bolts
> Painted firewall with finish black top coat
> Replaced tailpipe
> body (bondo) work on the rockers and rear body

Up next is the engine:
> Removed, cleaned and ready for paint - Manifolds, oil pan, motor mount, timing chain cover
> Replace timing chain and sprockets
> Looking for a repair kit for the oil pump (none in stock - anywhere)
> Repair crack in water jacket - Wondering if anyone has used the Lock-n-Stitch products to repair engine cracks? After research, I was impressed enough to order enough of the pins, bits and taps to repair an 8" crack. Since I have no experience with this type repair, I got in touch with Tech at the company, who was very helpful and informative. A training DVD came with the order and makes the process look simple
> finally gray paint for the block

- much done, but so much more to do ...

Sorry for not keeping my project notes updated - but here's the latest.

The project was completed Saturday at 9:41am. Painted the last hubcap emblem and snapped it on - just in time to enter the first local car show that started at 10:00am.

There were 55 cars registered including the local Corvette club, rods and antiques. Each contestant voted for their top 3 favorites. Appears most liked my Packard - Best in Show!!

Congratulations, she looks really good. The extra pains you took on the interior really paid off.

How did you handle the stenciling of the frame?

Thanks Mal and Ross!

After searching for months for the proper stencil font and size I ran across an "antique" military stencil machine on ebay. I couldn't justify buying the machine but the seller agreed to stamp out the numbers & characters (plus an extra set) for just a small $offer.

The rest was fairly easy in spacing and placement, then dabbing the paint in with a flux brush.
