To each their own I guess. I draw the line however at the place where one loses sight of the brand's original design intent.

Hi

A bit of this and that, though nothing on par with that '55 Clipper 'roadster':

A '42 Henney, solid project, interesting by pricey:

A '52 Patrician, flat black and only three bucks!:
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/4982385129.html

A '55 400, dry, solid, project, seller has two others including a '55 Clipper hardtop:

Steve

PS: Quite a project that SOHC 356!

1401 convertible coupe up for sale on ebay, but the color strikes as odd. Was this an official color available in 36? Also the reproduction factory plate makes me wonder if this car started out as a regular coupe from the factory.

Hello BDC:

That color is Chinese Red and it was only available (as a standard color) in 1938, not 1936. Also known as paint scheme Z. You can see a color sample on the PAC website.

A fellow in MCP had a 1938 Su8 and the color was quite handsome paired with a tan interior.

Cannot speak to the coupe to convertible conversion.

These 42's are overpriced.

The late Captain Baldrige's car is still for sale at $12,500. He put $35,000 into it 35 years ago. It's not the greatest because he was so old and it wasn't stored very well. It wasn't much to start with, but he loved it because it was business/staff car.
