DUAL COWL WINDSHIELD KIT

I can't remember where I found this photo of a 1940 convertible sedan, looks like 120, with a dual cowl windshield add-on. Passengers in the back seat get blown to bits in the Duchess and this, or something similar, would be a welcome addition.

If anyone knows this car, or where it was sold, or if you've heard of such a kit, which may have been lifted off an actual dual cowled car, I sure like to know more.

Don't get technical on me, West. I'm not a technical guy. But okay, a rear windshield accessory.

Do you recognize the car? Is there a supplier of these?
Was there an actual aftermarket item offered back in the day? Or custom made?

Does it look like equipment in the style of an actual dual cowled car of any brand?

Packard offers several styles of rear windshields or Tonneau shields in the 34 accessory catalog. One of them has a similar split glass arrangement to that in your photo but the glass contour and mount is different. There are also some side glass pieces with that offering but maybe those were removable.

No idea how long Packard offered the rear windshields since I didn't see any in later books. I suppose it is possible the shield styling evolved over years or had more than one version. The mounts could also have been different to suit the model but at least for a while they were sanctioned options.

The 22nd/23rd series convertible seatback windscreen for the rear passengers was a genuine factory accessory. It was also a considerable PITA for entering/exiting the rear seat.

I’d love to see it, esp if would fit a 1940.
I saw one older one sell at Bonham for about $1600. Looks like it would work on a 4-door.
Something to look for.

HEAT RISER / CONTROL VALVE
Gas is still percolating in the carburetor, and I was percolating too last night when the car flooded from it and died about 5 times.
I did a big write up on page 99 of this thread about how I think the heat control valve works, but even I don't have the patience to walk through it again.

Now I suspect I have the parts in their backwards, reversed, which I've done on several other components in the past before getting help or figuring it out.

I JUST NEED TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO ONE QUESTION, if you have a 356 engine, looking from the REAR of the manifold hot box, with the engine on your left:

Does the COLD heat control valve shaft START OUT turned as far as it can go CLOCKWISE and then move slowly counter-clockwise, rotated by the spring and counterweight, as it warms up?

Or does it start out COLD turned as far as it can go COUNTER-CLOCKWISE and gradually turn clockwise as it warms up, again, from the perspective of the rear of the manifold hot box?

This is how it sits when engine is cold. When hot the weight drops down 2-3 inches and turns shaft CCW. The coiled spring on the other side is what holds the weight up. As the engine heats the spring loses tension and gravity pulls the weight down.
