Still I don't think I'm certain you aligned it properly.

Is your oil pan dented way in or something? It should not hit the pan but it might get close. I would guesstimate it's about 5/16 between the arm and pan in reverse. Drawing shows Park, note the arc drawn which is the swing angle.

If you put it in park then simply rock it "over the hump" you are in Neutral, then you should click into H, D, L, R in succession. R should feel the same, you should not feel a "ting" before it seats properly. Only if you turn it slightly past R should you feel resistance.
