Note this '32 Light Eight 900 sedan was a prototype, it had a full-length, over-the-cowl hood, a feature that would arrive on the 1933-'34 "Car of the Dome" along with the 1934 Dietrich Individual Customs. The 1935 lines would finally receive it as a production style.

That "club sedan" in post #266 is a very unique Packard, a Derham one-off 1940 full individual custom owned for many years by Dr. Al Pressman of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. It was originally ordered by one of the principals of the NY investment house Drexel Lambert. Curiously, it does not have a Packard-issued vehicle number on the usual patent plate but rather has a Derham ID plate with a Derham-provided vehicle number. As originally delivered, much of the exterior brightwork was painted black.

Walt Breithaupt's 1940 120 convertible and Bob Teller's 1942 Clipper club sedan just behind it.

The photo was taken at a Packards East (region of PAC) gathering at the Teterboro Air Museum in NJ. Our next stop was to the preserved WW II submarine USS Ling in Hackensack. The Ling has become a sad story, If you have an interest in such things:

Dave,

Thanks for the background info on the "Club Sedan" as well as identifying the other Packards.

Concerning the USS Ling, a sad story. I hope the efforts of the volunteers in restoring her to her former glory are rewarded.

I've only had encounters with 2 submarines. One in San Fransisco on my first visit to the US in 2007 when I toured the USS Pampanito. Then in 2018 at Holbrook, in rural New South Wales about 300 kms from the nearest ocean, where HMAS Otway is now "moored". First saw Otway about 2000 and did a double take at the time, not expecting to see a submarine so far from the ocean!

NOTE - Click on photos to enlarge, particularly the last photo.

Image below was accommpanied by this text: "1938 Packard 120 with ambulance coachwork. The location is Australia House in The Strand, London during wartime, probably around 1942. The writing on the Packard states "Presented By Royal Automobile Club Victoria Australia, RACV Patriotic Appeal". The Packard itself did not come from Australia as it was registered in Yorkshire, England in 1938. British Empire countries raised funds for the war effort and paid for ambulances and sometimes aircraft. Due to the massive losses of vehicles in the evacuation from Dunkirk in 1940 the government boughtmany hundreds of cars for conversion into ambulances, fire tenders and tea wagons. Many patriotic owners gave their cars to the war effort . American cars were favoured as they were big, tough and could withstand continued abuse. This Packard has a very neat body comparedwith most conversions which were simply cars with the rear body hacked off behind the fro nt doors and a crude wooden box body fitted. Those cars that survived the war often enjoyed. a third metamorphosis into "woodies" and light rucks."
