There are 2 types of 1938 super8 blocks; the ones that are cracked and the ones that are going to crack. For some reason the 1938 320 CI blocks are prone to cracking. I have heard that they used a slightly different alloy in 1938 and that's the reason, but I'm not sure if that's the whole story. Your 39 block should be ok, it's only 38.

Maybe it has been too long since I've looked at a 38 Super 8 but the spare tire area doesn't look right to me. It appears to have too much enclosed area area the spare tires. Am I completely off base with this or is it maybe that I'm used to seeing them in black?

Regarding the handsome '56 Patrician, A/C, frame-off restoration cited, back in post #3003.

One of my '56 Pats (that's been languishing in storage for a long time) is presently painted in a dark blue metallic (similar to the one shown in the Kimes' book), but it rolled off the line in the MR paint scheme and trim set 75 (black cloth and white leather).

For years, I've been thinking of painting it all black, but this example has my thoughts swinging back to the original white over black (especially with WWW tires). The black seems to hide the sedan framing of the side windows. However, I still think a '55 Patrician sedan, with the abbreviated side trim, looks better in a monochromatic scheme - preferably in a darker hue.

Another '56 Pat that I have has a copper colored interior trim combo , but cloth and leather (trim set 75), but was original painter white over tan (code MR). It's beautiful color scheme (IMHO), but I can't imagine it being used with any other shades but black, white, and combinations thereof.

The ad says rare gold anniversary Packard and the car is dark green! Click bait
