Looks like you also have the original engine paint there as well. Now if you could only get a sample of it to Bill Hirsch, youo would make a lot of '56 Clipper owners very happy.

I spoke with Bill last fall at Hershey, and he said that if someone could provide a sample of the original paint, he'd make it.

randy berger, I believe you are correct, the V-8 Autolite ignition system had the suppression as a carbon plug in the distributor cap.

Yea I can get a sample of the paint to Bill. Actually some of it came off the front timing cover. The front end was covered in grease so when I pulled the grease off the paint peeled away with it! So we would have an accurate, not faded color great for copying I'm sure! Since we are talking electrical check out the battery I pulled from this time capsule! Eldorado series!
BTW Randy those plug wires are ribbed at the bottom- I think 4 or 5 ribbed at the spark plug end. I will most definitely get better pictures up and pictures of the spark plugs. Who knows if those are original too. They are branded "Champion" after all so there you go!

Don't remember ever hearing of a battery by that name but think we can assume that one changed. Believe original was Willard & think they used one other as well.

Right, original OEM batteries were Willard and Auto-Lite, both in Group 60 configuration.

Okay progress report. Heads have been pulled. Like what I see. Rocker arm shaft on one was cracked, but its safe and sound in the machine shop to be duplicated.
