Yes the Clippers advanced and jumped the 60S, so it was a bit too late for what LeBaron did, a copy. Still, it is a spectacular looking car, just instantly dated and a copy.

I am in the process of trying to purchase both a 1942 180 and a 1946 Clipper. They are like night and day, separated by a war.

I'm living that difference. I sold a very well running 1950 Eight when I bought a 1941 160 sedan. Both cars were out of estates in Westchester County and both suffer from the work of previous owners. The 160 has had a very hard life and is needier than I wish it to be.

I just spent much of my vacation time this week packing the shift mechanism with washers so I can drive it without grinding gears or locking the shift arm. I appear to be successful. However I did some wondering about the twisted minds of men while underneath the car wrestling with the splashers and such.

Good luck with the 180, I hope that has been taken care of

Regards

John Harley

I didn't realize the executive used a 2 barrel carburetor

Looks like it has a dual action fuel pump, and the brake fluid reservoir on the firewall. It looks like it had factory seatbelts too.

The hotrodders will buy this car for the tail lights and throw the rest away.

re: post 489.

Looking at picture 52 in the for sale advertisement for the '55 Caribbean, what is the device positioned across the bonnet just forward of the radiator? A hood support? Is / was that an original Packard accessory?

What a beautiful automobile!

55 Caribbeans all had the hood support rod due to the huge increase in the weight of the hood for the Carib to accommodate the scoops. For 56 the entire hood stamping was new and lighter - no support rod.

The 2 barrel and the dual action pump were not stock Packard even on the small 320 Clippers in 55. I wonder if a Hash engine transplant found its way into the car.

The brake fluid setup looks aftermarket -- or at least the jar is larger than the Packard option so might have been replaced.

Seat belt mounting holes in door look correct but storing brackets look kind of crude to be factory. Packard didn't seem to work very hard on that belt setup so maybe they are original and just beat up. I would hope the brackets would have had more rounded corners than those appear to have and been chromed originally.

Let the ride decide-

I saw that tough looking 56 Executive that currently has 1 bid for $200.

Appear too rough to justify a bid and $1000 transport. Still a rare car and the 2nd Executive 2 Door hardtop to pop up in ebay in one week.

The other one ended with a Buy It Now of $2695 and I believe that's a good price.
