Very nice cleanup and painting the transmission! However, note that the shift arms should be painted too.

I do understand that you are replacing the top plate but my comment about painting the arms was for those who may come across the unpainted top photo out of context and have a later car. It and the arms are painted. Incidentally, Olson’s Gaskets has all the transmission gaskets and are probably cheaper than any of the dealers.
As for putting on the cane top plate, I am curious how that will be done. I once tried to go the other way around on my 1941 Henney-Packard that had a 1937 transmission in it when I bought it. The proper top plate was totally different so wasn’t just a matter of popping one off and the other on. I hope you will be able to show the modifications needed.

That makes sense. I am aware of Olson's Gaskets and have heard a lot of good things about them
I'm personally not familiar with the needed modifications, but I know Ross Miller is. Also, Allen Rich who worked on my car last winter has made the modifications before.

Maybe whoever does the work can document it for you to post here.

Question for the group. Before I swap my carburetor from the Stromberg to the Carter, I could use some clarification. My understanding is that the choke insert area on the manifold is separate from the exhaust. That is, that that no exhaust gases should be in this area. Is that correct?
In particular, before I remove the screws in the photo, will removing them introduce an exhaust leak? My understanding is that the answer is no. I think these can be completely removed without causing an exhaust leak. I’m just looking for some confirmation before I start.

Somewhere here on the forum is a pretty good writeup from Peter in Australia on how to do the modification. But it must be from 10+ years ago.
