I bought a 47 Clipper in April of this year.I wanted to get my model engine nailed down before starting off frame restoration. The info I have is as follows. Firewall # <72655I> Firewall tag 2182 17263 Head# 367633 date 12 8 46 Engine 6cyl only can make out "f" .
Also have painted by Fred Church and John Wadsworth Brentwood N.H. punched on right rear wheel house covered when the door is closed. Random painters or Packard guys? Any help would be great.

Welcome to the site. The number stamped into the firewall is an anti-theft number for which records have been lost. The firewall tag number verifies it is a 2100 Model Clipper Six Body style 2182 Touring Sedan 4 Door. The 17263 is the production number. The prefix "F" in the engine number is correct for a 1946 Six cylinder engine. By Firewall tag are you referring to the data plate with the name of the dealer and delivery date stamped into it which is screwed on the top of the firewall, drivers side or to the small number tag ? Can't help with the other info.
I hope you will register the car here and post a photo.

I am registered the rusty red one.It was the small tag left side. Will look for driver side tag but not standing out. Is there a door post tag on the 47's?

The data plate should be obvious. No door plate on 47's.

Woops. I did it again. I tried to send a large picture.
Your data plate should be on top of the cowl on the drivers side and look like this. This one is on one of my 49s but my 47 looks about like this. The riveted tag close to the embossed numbers on the firewall may be the same as the ones on the data plate but they also may not.

Thanks for the pics. Found the holes but no plate. Where is the paint code found? Is the dipstick in the oil fill tube or some where else?

Pic below is of my '41 120 with dipstick at edge of block, part way between distributor and starter motor. I'd imagine yours would be similar.

Same place on the 288s and 327s also. I would imagine all the Eights's from 41-54 are the same.

The paint code is normally stamped in the left oval of the ID plate. Frequently it was a painted stamp. So, it is frequently rubbed off. But, since you don't have an ID plate you don't have to worry about the paint code being missing.

I will have closer look for the dip but mines a 6cyl so not as much room there.As for paint I guess the burgundy may be original color but it was painted at some point.
