I am considering purchasing a new set of rear leaf springs for my 1954 Packard Clipper, Two-door club sedan, 327CI L-8.

The spring manufacturer asked me to give him the series number of my car.

Could you help me figure out this number? I have read the ID info in the FAQ and it is not too clear to me how to figure out my car's series number. The small plate/placard on my driver's side door jam says 5465-2627. The anti-theft number on the firewall says C77202. The engine serial number says L413582 (looks like it is a 180hp motor with hydraulic lifters from the info in the FAQ).

1954 models are 54th series.

And he might need to break it down to chassis number to select the proper spring. The 5465 club sedan body is on the 5411 chassis.

Typically when parts source books are asking for "series" they mean the chassis type, 5411 in this case as HH56 has indicated.

Your engine is from a 1953 and, as you said, is 180hp. That's the 5-main bearing 327cid as used on several senior 127" wheelbase models except Patrician, and the 122" wheelbase Mayfair.

I'd be interested in the source reference for your statement that the '53 Mayfair used the 9-main 327 engine. I believe that is incorrect, the Mayfair which became the Pacific only became a senior car in 1954, along with The Convertible.

If I said 9-main, I meant to say 5-main. I should also add that my 1953 Clipper Deluxe Touring Sedan, which was an all original car, also used the same engine which I believe was the standard engine for that model.
