Pulled the intake and exhaust manifolds to replace gaskets. While manifolds off, looks like a good time to set valves. However the manual says to set valves hot. Looks like difficult while hot.

What clearance should I use to set valves cold?

Or should I just set the valves hot?

For best results I suggest adjusting them with the engine hot and running. Not the most pleasant of jobs but you'll probably only ever have to do it once. If you chose to apply some sort of thermal expansion correction factor and do them cold, don't forget those valves have rather unusually long stems.

And in case you're not aware of it, the 1933 model with the smaller 320 engine is properly called the Eight, not the Standard Eight. 1932 was the last year it was called the Standard Eight.

The original specs in 1933 called for 0.004" hot clearance for both intake and exhaust but this was changed in 1934 to 0.006" for the exhaust.
