32 Light Eight coupe top cover

Dear All,

I am now the owner of a Light Eight (900) coupe (or stationary coupe). The car currently has a faux leather covering on the top. In doing some research, I have found only a few pictures of light eight coupes (plenty of sedans and roadsters, though), and those seem to show a cloth, probably canvas, covering on their tops.

Do any of you know if the canvas top cover was standard for the light eight coupes?

Thanks,

Tom

p.s. Cross posted over at AACA Packard forum.
p.p.s. Yes, Mal, I will be including the car in the owner's registry. Give me a little time to get some photos!

Tom,

Congratulations on the new acquisition, you're getting quite a collection of early '30's Packards.
And in advance for the Packard Owner's Registry entry, looking forward to seeing it.

Not that automotive advertising materials, printed before the cars ever hit the market, always portrayed the final product accurately, but you might look at this from the Light Eight introductory brochure.

Can't help you with your question, but wanted to tell you, that the '32 Light Eight coupe is my all time favorite touring Packard! I am sooo jealous!

Dave,

Here is the image from the MMM archive. Similar two-tone look as in the artist rendering for the advertisement. Still not positive if that is cloth or just painted. Looks like cloth to me.

Denny,

I am looking forward to driving it, that is for sure!

Cheers,

Tom

Tom, again noting that factory renderings aren't always conclusive, if you enlarge that one 400%, a seam in the top becomes just visible which I take to be a stitched fabric seam. Still isn't conclusive, but persuasive.
