V8 forged crankshaft on eBay

I wouldn't ordinarily bother post an eBay item here as most of us probably scan eBay at least daily, but this one is a bit uncommon. We've discussed the forged cranks before almost ad-nauseam, but nevertheless I thought it was worth pointing out.

Yes, maybe the last NOS forged crank extant; but a starting bid of $1250? Might as well start an survey. What do you think the selling price will be?
Personally, JMHO, but it won't get an opening bid. Question - has anyone ever broken an OEM cast steel crank? jack vines

As for breaking an OEm cast crank i doubt many have. But that may not be a deciding factor.
1. avaialability of NOS CAST cranks???? 2. Cost of regrinding a used crank???? (+bearings of unknown origin??) 3. avialability of just a good used OEM crank???? 4. COST comparison of the above 3 points against the eBay price. I don't know.

I assume the point here is that it's a cast steel crank?
It sure looks it and Packard specified that it decided to use cast for the V-8. NOS or not it still has to go out and be tested. Senior cranks will not hold up if left lying on the floor.

Tim. Look CLOSE at the crank. The rod journals are solid. NOT hollow. That is supposed to mean a forged crank. Not just cast.

engine had the wrong harmonic balancer. FWIW, the last billet crankshaft quote I got was $3250. For that money one can specify BBC rod journal size, any stroke length, any front snout length and diameter. So not an apples-to-apples comparison with an OEM forging. Another FWIW, I'd value a ready-to-run OEM cast crank, rod and main bearings at $450-500. Thus, he's asking an $800 premium opening bid for the forged crank. I haven't seen any for sale in years, but the last two I sold went for $600 each. Inflation makes paupers of us all eventually. jack vines
