As advised in How to replace a Ranco Heater Valve Seal, to use Copper Spray A Gasket, I wonder if there is any substitute(s), as it's impossible to obtain in Norway.

Any of the conventional gasket pastes like Permatex No. 4, or even plain and basic gasket shellac will work just fine.

Tom, I've never used any sealant on any of the valves I have done. The rubber is quite soft and seals well. The key thing is to do your crimps carefully.

Thinking over my prior response, I agree with Ross. No sealant was used when new and none should be required if the valve is reassembled properly.

Thanks everybody.
And now I also understand how the valve works.

Good find Tom.
Kevin, for the sake of completeness please find attached the orginal Ranco instruction sheet if you like to add the pages to your how-to.
