Santa Cruz Valley (Arizona) near Tubac AZ Car Show

I attended this car show for the first time today, and in doing so, I put 123 miles on the Packard by the time I returned home. On the way down to the show, I took the liberty and drove at 80 mph after leaving the Tucson metro area SB on the interstate. Packard V-8's drive so wonderfully on the open road. Just ask the man who owns one(me). The weather was simply magnificent. I love living in southern Arizona and I wish I had worn shorts!

The Santa Cruz Valley south of Tucson lies just north of Nogales Arizona and it is a major gateway into the country. Interstate 19 is the highway and the area is full of history. Many people may not know, but this area of Arizona (and Tucson too) was not part of the United States until the Gadsden Purchase occurred in 1853. The area below the Gila River was purchased from Mexico to provide access for southern rail routes to the west coast. Today, the general area is home to many different retirement communities. I encountered many seniors from the mid-west and Canada today, all wintering here and enjoying our dry & mild winters. The senior population of the area really enjoyed the Packard. All were familiar with the marque and only one person today asked "who made Packard"?

The Packard showed very well and she was awarded 2nd place in the 1949 to 1957 Original car category. A 1956 Chevy hardtop took 1st place and a friend's '54 Hudson Hornet hardtop took 3rd place.

I've attached some pictures of other vehicles in attendance.

Enjoy!

Some cool cars there. I saved the pix of the red 54 for my idea file, someday when I have a paint budget.
