Ask the seller. You need, or have someone who knows 40 Packards, talk to the seller

THe seller said it was 138 wheelbase (he thinks). IT is either a touring or formal sedan, right? What is one of the differences in the touring and formal?

A formal sedan has a padded roof and blanked out rear quarter window.
Based on the fender trim running all the way to the wheel well, you know that it is NOT a long wheelbase car. The dashboard is the fastest way of knowing if it's a 160 or 180 model (this one is a 180). However, in 1940, the differences between a 160 and 180 are so small, it really is not a big deal. Basically identical cars with a little trim difference. As i mentioned, the chassis of this car is very, very nice, except for the rattle-can spray bomb that was used to "dress it up." The upholstery appears to be fairly nice, however, the headliner was not done quite right and sags (so I've been told). Carpet is not correct. Based on the length of the rear bumper bracket, this car originally had a trunk rack. Which comes with the car, but is damaged. In the meantime, the rear license plate light and license plate was hung upside down. I think if you can do a lot of your own work, in regards to putting a proper paint job on this car, it would be a good car with which to start.

You need to search 1940 Packard images on the internet. Is it a 160 or 180? It has 180 side mount covers, but may be incorrect. Someone really needs to view the car in person. There should be an id plate under the hood giving model information.

Side mount covers on 160 and 180 are identical. Again, there is hardly any difference between 160 and 180. Mainly in the dashboard.

Get some numbers. The motor number will tell you if it's a Super Eight (356) engine and whether or not it's a 1940 Super Eight engine. If the original patent plate is intact the vehicle number will tell you which year and model.

138-inch wheelbase 5-passenger touring sedan. It is a 180.
