I get the catalog for the 51-54 Packard. I would think the 55 tank that fits the CLipper would fit the 54 Clipper.

Tanks should fit 51-56. The ebay listing says 52-56.
As was pointed out, some 51's had a whistle. For want of a better answer, even though the whistle was eliminated in later 51 production, I guess the repros lacking the whistle are technically not a correct item for some cars and must be the reason they are not listed as fitting that year. Physically I don't know why there would be a difference. The capacity is the same on all 51 and on regular models. The straps, bolts, trunk floor pan etc the same for 51-4 non commercial models so it would be really nice to know officially why they are not listed as fitting 51's.

The 51 Junior-series tank is 18 gallon, all the rest are 20 gallon. The longer straps that come with Kanter's tank kit will allow you to mount the 20 gallon tank in place of the 18 gallon tank. I hear as of today that the tanks are now available for sale and shipment.

Interesting. Any idea when they changed? The 24th series specs in SC 24 #8 and in SM lists all models as 20 gal.

The shop manual specs show 20 gal. for all chassis in 51, as well as 52-54 - INCLUDING all commercial chassis. Even the 51 Owner's Manual shows 20 gal. for 200, 300, and 400 models.
However, the parts book shows same P/N for all 51 chassis EXCEPT commercial. That one appears to be a throwback to 48. Also, there's a different strap listed for all commercial chassis, 51-54, which suggests a different shape for those cars. Curiosuly, the parts book shows list a different tank sending unit for 51 than 52-54, with an analogous situation for commerical chassis, but 51-52 use same dash gauge. Just more food for thought.

I've emailed the source who told me about the 18 gallon tanks on the 51 juniors; I likewise cannot find anything to substantiate that but I'll wait and see what response I get.

If these fit the 55 Clippers, do they fit the 54 Clippers? I know this has been discussed. I want to be positive before I purchase a new tank.
