Tom,

I could not post my comments on your site from work so I post a few here.

Where did you buy the wrinkle-black paint?

Did you tape off and paint around the tag/label or did you remove it? If so how did you reattach it?

Great progress there.

Starter looks very nice indeed. Krinkle paint in black is available from Eastwood and perhaps others. The Owen-Dyneto tag is attached with a blind rivet. I'd recommend using a rivet shorter than the thickness of the case.

Tom,

I used wrinkle paint that I bought at a local O'Reilly's.

I did not have a drill press at the time, so I left the tag in place and very carefully taped it off. I think it worked great.

As Owen says, you can get blind rivets to reattach if you decide to remove the tag.

Thanks for the comments.

Tom

We have no O'Reilly's here in Illinois. I wonder if the paint (I think it is Rustoleum) I have seen at Home Depot or Menards is the same stuff you used and what Eastwood Sells?

Did a quick search and found these. What you think?
Plasti-Kote Wrinkled Finish #217 Black.
or
Krylon # 3370 Jet Black Wrinkle Finish

On starters, generators, distributors, etc. with tags that are not easy to remove, I use axle grease to coat the tag before painting. It's easy to apply and remove when the painting is finished.

The stuff I have is VHT, but they are all basically the same. Spray it on, heat it up, let it dry.

I am catching up with the updates to the Packard Paddock. I have added two more entries to the Paddock Tribune, and have started a new movie section, the Paddock Cinema. There you will find three approximately five minute clips on engine and drive train removal.

I have also added more photos, which can be found here, here, here and here.

Thanks for following along!

Tom,

Thanks for the updates, looks like you're having fun along the way. Unfortunately I couldn't view the videos but the numerous pic's you provide give a comprehensive view of proceedings nevertheless.

I'm sorry you could not view the movies. They are in Quicktime format, which you would probably need to install. If you want, you can find the Quicktime player here:

apple.com/quicktime/download/

I used to hear complaints from PC users that Quicktime futzed with their system, but I haven't heard that lately. But you still might want to ask around.

I am glad you liked the pictures. Thanks again for stopping by.
