You can make an astounding improvement in those taillights by wet sanding them heavily with 600 grit then blowing a couple of coats of clear on. You will be pleased.

thanks for the great idea Ross! that'll keep the cracks from leaking too and hold the lens together better.

went on to 500 grit last night. did the hood, roof, and trunk.

you can see the difference between 360 and 500 in the picture.

my morning view everyday, some days i just watch as the door goes down....then get sad.

got all the way to 4000 grit on the hood, roof, and trunk. thank God that is over with. have i ever mention that i HATE sanding!!

you can see the 4000 grit still was taking a very small amount of clear off. It left a pretty good shine at certain angles, so i tried the 2 scratch removers and then the Nu-Finish and that spot on the trunk is what i got. pretty darn good i'd say and smooth as a piece of fresh glass.

now i get to do the same thing to both sides of the car.

then all over polishing and waxing.

Such an interesting contrast between the "patina" and the shine. I really like it! Hard work pays off!

Wow Hank! That looks like a mirror! You are doing a fantastic job on that car. Is it street legal yet?

Did you have much rust and if so what did you do to treat that before you cleared the car? I like your concept but I think I have too many random rust spots to pull it off. And you have the remains of cool colors as opposed to grey and black.

What you're creating there Henry, is art. That's going to be the biggest head-turner of a Packard ever. Well worth the effort.
