Hello
Can anyone give good advice to re install the rear drums on a 1951 Packard 300 series touring sedan ????

I guess what exactly with it do you have a question about? The drum goes back on, and then then axle nut is tightened to 200-250 dt/lbs. Pretty much all there is to it.

Another thing would be is make sure the axle taper and the mating surface of hub are in good condition & clean --nice and smooth with no burrs, dirt, or anything else on the surfaces..

One more thing is to make sure key is in good shape and fits in the groove. Axle nut is tightened to something like 250 ft. lbs. Check manual for spec. Then, install a cotter pin of the correct size.

Every so often I'll get the axle nut to the correct torque and find myself equally between cotter pin holes such that I can't advance to the next, and backing off the prior one leaves me too much below the torque specification. The answer is to either dress the washer a bit with a file, or try a thicker or thinner washer.
