Glad you got your curiosity satisfied about the Skinner.

Actually Packard didn't go to true "full flow" oil filtration until 1934, the Purolator EF-2 unit used before then was a by-pass installation. And the full-flow filtration was used thru 1939 only on the "senior" engines and discontinued after 1939. When it was introduced in 1934 it included some other changes, the oil cooler with the L-6 (and later L-8) disposable Purolator cartridge filters and finned rod bearing caps, revised oil galleys and pressure relief valve incorporating a 2nd relief valve for the filter, etc.

To All,

Next time I'll end my joshing with a LOL.

TGIF for all you Packardites as the weekend is fast approaching and ~4:00 PM starts the weekend. But to us retirees, everyday seems like Saturday.

And yes this is another one of my tongue is cheek comments.

Oh well it's 3:50 PM here in California so it's toddy time.

To those in the mid-west and parts east bundle up as it looks like a severe cold front is moving your.

If I have offended anyone, I apologize for my sick humor.

A few phone calls only turned up 1 Skinner Oil Rectifier and it was owned by a collector with quite a few 2nd series cars and he is not willing to part with it - to valuable to him as a spare. Sorry, best of luck finding one.

Thank you for the info. I e-mailed Steve Colmer about the parts add but haven't heard any thing at this time.
Thanks again, Steve Stephenson

The Oil Rectifier was used only on 1925 and some 1926 cars. It was supposed to drive out moisture and some impurities but it was flawed and they discontinued it some time in 1926, It was bolted to the top of the exhaust manifold and had a vacuum line and oil in line and an oil out line. It was referred to as the Bee Hive by some owners. Steve Stephenson

Another, perhaps better, photo of the Skinner unit. This photo by this writer taken at the 2014 CCCA Grand Classic in Cape May, NJ. Vehicle is Howard Schaevitz' 2nd series Town Car.

Interesting difference, Dave. No spark plug on Howard Schaevitz's manifold.
