I have seen a glass-bowl fuel sediment filter placed just off the carburetor on the 2200 series 356 engines before. Was this a dealer 'accessory'?

The fuel pump on my 48 2255 looks to have been replaced.

First picture is of the fuel pump that's in pieces in a tub in the car that came with it. Looking it over, this looks to be an original Packard fuel pump, maybe the one that was on the car and removed. Would people agree?

These pictures shows the fuel pump currently installed on the car. It has a glass-bowl fuel sediment filter on the bottom, which makes no sense to me, as with the baffling, no one would be able to see the fuel filter well in the position it's in. Is this a Packard pump or an aftermarket one?

The bottom pump is a replacement. If you look at the photo I posted here it shows the correct pump and plumbing for the 22-23 series non 356 engines.

The glass bowl ceramic filter located by the carb was an option and could be installed by the factory, dealer, or could be bought at a local parts store.

I'd say the pump currently on your car is after-market. The first photo looks like the pumps from my 356's.

A gasoline filter just before the carburetor was optional equipment, yours may be that or perhaps an aftermarket model, these were made by various companies in various styles but all function similarly.

The first fuel pump pictured appears visually to be the correct original pump but look for the numbers 9116 stamped on the flange. The pump with the "Rex" label is no doubt a rebuilt unit from another vehicle and perhaps not an AC pump. Again, look for a number on the flange and perhaps I can identify what it came from.

If you're not up to buying the parts and rebuilding the fuel pump yourself I can recommend Gould Rebuilders, they advertise in all the major hobby publications.

Thanks everyone. I will have to do a bit of de-greasing to look over these pump numbers and will post pictures afterwards. Absolutely up to rebuilding a fuel pump myself. Just did a couple and the parts kits fromthen-now-auto.com/ were quite good.
